N.C. State Rolling with Series Sweeps versus Cal and Clemson

The North Carolina State Wolfpack have won seven games in a row. Six of these wins have come in back-to-back sweeps of ACC opponents in weekend series.

Last weekend, the Wolfpack made a road trip out west to play the California Golden Bears in Berkeley. Head coach Elliott Avent’s team set the tone in the first game of that series with a decisive 9-0 win.

Cal made the middle game of the series close. However, N.C. State was able to pull it out with a 7-6 win.

Then, to complete the sweep, starting pitcher Ryan Marohn went 7 2/3 innings and struck out nine hitters in a 5-2 win for N.C. State.

After a midweek win over East Carolina, the Wolfpack welcomed the Clemson Tigers to Raleigh. Heading into this weekend, Clemson was the number two team in the country in D1 Baseball’s rankings.

Throughout the three games in the series, N.C. State outscored Clemson 26-8. They defeated the Tigers in a run-rule in the first matchup. This ended the game in eight innings after Josh Hogue hit a double to ice the game.

The Wolfpack made Clemson look uncharacteristic the entire weekend as the Tigers could not put offense together consistently at Doak Field.

Up Next – N.C. State has a tough midweek matchup next week as they will play UNC-Wilmington at home. This will be the first of two meetings between the two teams this season. The first pitch for that game on Tuesday, April 29, is scheduled for 6 p.m. EDT.

After that, the Wolfpack will head to Coral Gables, Fla., for a road series against the Miami Hurricanes.
