Georgia (50-12) 13, Mississippi State (43-18) 12 – World Baseball Network’s Alfred Ezman has a recap of Georgia’s wild win in the Athens Super Regional opener here.
West Virginia (45-15) 17, Cal Poly (39-24) 1 – The West Virginia Mountaineers clinched the first Men’s College World Series berth in program history, demolishing Cal Poly 17-1 in the second game of the Morgantown Super Regional, erasing a 1-0 deficit with 17 unanswered runs to sweep their way to Omaha.
Gavin Kelly, Armani Gusman, and Tyrus Hall each homered, and Ben Lumsden homered twice, with those four combining to drive in 10 of the Moutnaineers’ 17 runs in the game.
On the mound, four pitchers combined to allow one run on seven hits and a walk, striking out nine. Starter Maxx Yehl threw five innings, allowing the Mustangs’ lone run on a first inning sac fly by Ryan Tayman that scored Nate Castellon.
North Carolina (49-12-1) 4, USC (48-17) 0 – The Tar Heels shut out USC to force a deciding Game 3 in teh Chapel Hill Super Regional on Sunday. Colin Hynek’s solo homer in the second was the only run Scott Forbes’ club would need.
Starter Jason Decaro threw a complete game shutout for the Tar Heels, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out eight, using just 117 pitches to get the win.
North Carolina got two more runs in the sixth, one on a solo homer from Erik Paulsen and another on a sac fly by Rom Kellis, and a sac fly in the eighth by Macon Winslow was the final kiss goodnight.
Troy (38-30) 7, Little Rock (39-28) 2 – World Baseball Network’s Alfred Ezman has a recap of Troy clinching the first Men’s College World Series berth in program history here.
Ole Miss (41-21) 5, Auburn (42-22) 3 – Ole Miss only had five hits in the game but made them count, earning their first trip to Omaha in four years by sweeping Auburn at Plainsman Park.
Judd Utermark had a two-run double in the sixth that tied the game at two apiece, and then in the eighth, Will Furniss hit a two-run homer that scored Utermark and Tristan Bissetta followed him with a solo homer.
Taylor Rabe threw seven innings for the Rebels, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk while striking out eight.
Oklahoma (37-22) 8, Kansas (45-17) 1 – The Sooners got four in the fourth, including a three-run homer by Dayton Tockey, and homers in the fifth from Camden Johnson and Trey Gambill to take Game 1 of the Lawrence Super Regional.
Oklahoma starter Cord Rager gave up a hit and a walk over six scoreless innings, hitting one batter and striking out six, and reliever LJ Mercurius allowed one run on three hits over the final three innings.
Texas (43-13) 11, Oregon (43-16) 3 – The Texas Longhorns got out to a 4-0 lead in the second and cruised to a win in the opener of the Austin Super Regional. Starter Dylan Volantis allowed two runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings, walking four and striking out 10.
Casey Borba hit a solo homer in the second and Ethan Mendoza hit a two-run homer in the sixth for Texas, and Adrian Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with five RBIs, hitting a two-run double in the first that gave Texas a 2-0 lead and adding an RBI single and two sac flies later in the game.
Alabama (41-19) 8, St. John’s (36-25) 0 – Tyler Fay allowed just two hits over 7 1/3 scoreless innings for Alabama, walking three, striking out nine, and hitting one batter, and Bryce Fowler, Justin Lebron, and Brennan Holt each had two RBIs as the Crimson Tide easily calmed the St. John’s Red Storm in Game 1 of the Tuscaloosa Super Regional.
Holt hit a two-run double in the second, Fowler hit a two-run double in the sixth, and Lebron hit a two-run double in the eighth.
Ashton Crowther allowed a walk in 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to preserve the shutout for the Tide.
