Starters

Samsung: Tae-in Won, RHP. Samsung’s ace moves back into the rotation for the biggest start of his career. He has pitched in relief this postseason, covering for injured closer Jae-yun Kim. In the regular season he had a 4.52 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 145 1/3 innings. He pitched for Korea at the World Baseball Classic in March and becomes a free agent after the season. His manager at the 2023 Classic was Kang-chul Lee, who now manages KT.

KT: Davis Daniel, RHP. Daniel won Game 1, going six innings with seven strikeouts and three runs allowed. The Atlanta native pitched for the Angels and Braves and was released from the Reds’ Triple-A club in July. He signed with KT days later.

How Game 4 Went

KT led 1-0 on a first-inning homer by Jin-hyuk Jang. Samsung then scored six in the bottom of the first. Lewin Díaz and Young-woong Kim drove in runs with singles, and Ji-hyuk Ryu was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. No. 9 hitter Do-hwan Kim’s fly ball to right was misplayed by Hyun-min Ahn and went for a three-run double.

Logan Allen lasted one inning. It was the first time all season he had allowed six runs or failed to pitch at least three innings.

KT walked five times in the fifth and cut the lead to 7-4. With the tying run at first, 20-year-old Chan-seung Bae came in, got a strikeout and a popout, and stranded the bases loaded. Seung-kyu Park answered with a two-run double, and Ja-wook Koo added an RBI double in the seventh.

What’s at Stake

Samsung is one win from its ninth championship and its first since 2014. KT, the regular-season champion, has to win three straight to take the title, and the last two of those games would be at home in Suwon.
