On Thursday, the LG Twins announced the signing of former MLB pitcher Tristan Beck to strengthen their pitching staff ahead of the 2027 season. The move marks the team’s first significant signing since being eliminated from the playoffs by the KIA Tigers.

Beck signed a one-year, $878,000 contract, giving him an opportunity to transition back into a starting role after spending most of his major league career as a reliever. Beck made 14 appearances for the San Francisco Giants in 2026, posting a 5.21 ERA in 19 innings. He also spent time at Triple-A, where he recorded a 4.54 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings across 28 appearances.
In 85 career major league appearances, Beck has a 4.08 ERA with 132 strikeouts in 176 2/3 innings. Despite spending much of his minor league career as a starter, he made just five starts in the majors.
Beck features a fastball, slider, sweeper, curveball and changeup. His average fastball velocity of 94.8 mph was the highest of his career. That mark would have ranked fourth in the KBO last season. The only KBO starting pitcher to exceed it was Doosan Bears starter Been Gwak.
The Twins will look to Beck to anchor a rotation that experienced a steep decline in 2026 after helping LG win the Korean Series in 2025. The decline was on full display in the KBO Semi-Playoff round against the KIA Tigers. The Twins allowed 24 runs combined, including a 13-1 blowout loss in game to clinch the sweep for KIA.
Yonny Chirinos and Anders Tolhurst were instrumental in leading the LG Twins’ pitching staff during the 2025 season, but both took steps backward in 2026.
After posting a 3.31 ERA in 177 innings with 137 strikeouts in 2025, Chirinos struggled the following season. He recorded a 6.68 ERA in eight starts before being released.
Tolhurst signed with LG in August 2025 and posted a 2.86 ERA with 45 strikeouts in 44 innings. He also won both of his Korean Series starts, pitching a combined 13 innings and allowing just three runs.
However, 2026 proved to be a disappointing season for Tolhurst. He finished with a 4.24 ERA in 163 1/3 innings while experiencing a significant decline in fastball velocity and strikeout rate.
With Tolhurst unlikely to return, Beck is expected to step into his spot in the rotation.
