Michael Wielansky has made the Guadalajara area something of a home over the last two seasons.
He's played there since the fall of 2024, when he first came down to play winter ball with the Charros de Jalisco in the Liga Mexicana del Pacifico, then stayed for the summer, and then returned for last year's winter ball season, where the Charros won the LMP title and the Caribbean Series - with Wielansky going 10-for-16 in the round robin and 4-for-10 in the semifinal and final, taking MVP honors at winter ball's main event.
The Charros announced Tuesday that Wielansky will be back for the winter of 2026-27 as they look to defend their LMP and Caribbean Series titles.
An 18th-round pick of the Houston Astros out of the College of Wooster, Wielansky played four seasons in the Astros and San Francisco Giants organizations and spent time in the Atlantic League before heading to Mexico.
With the Charros in the LMP, Wielansky has appeared in 93 games over two seasons, batting .347/.415/.475 with 22 doubles, five homers, and 62 RBIs. In winter ball, the versatile infielder has played 134 games, all but seven of them coming with the Charros, batting .317/.418/.459 with 30 doubles, nine triples, seven homers, and 57 RBIs. He also played in the 2023 Caribbean Series with Panama, where he went 10-for-30 with a homer and two RBIs in seven games.
