The Los Angeles Queens are one victory away from becoming the first champions in Women's Professional Baseball League history.

Using a 10-run fourth inning against the San Francisco Firebells on Thursday night at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, Illinois, the Queens took a commanding 2-0 series lead in the best-of-five championship round with an 11-7 victory.

Catcher Maggie Foxx kicked things off for the Queens with a solo homer in the second. The Firebells quickly responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame, followed by two additional runs in the third to extend their advantage to three.

But the Queens jumped all over Firebell's starting pitcher, Jill Albayati, in the fourth. They set a WPBL record with 10 runs in a single inning, thanks to an abundance of errors from San Francisco's defense and timely hits.

The most impactful hit of the fourth for the Queens came off the bat of second baseman Ayuri Shimano, who drilled her second grand slam of the postseason.

San Francisco did its best to stage a late comeback, but their efforts fell short. Despite leading the Queens in the hit column, they made six crucial defensive errors that they couldn't recover from.

Right-hander Ayami Sato threw four bulk innings for the Queens, allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out five. Meggie Meidlinger tossed a fairly clean seventh inning to close things out.
