The Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional has changed rules regarding reinforcements and imported players for the upcoming season.

The number of imported players allowed on each team's roster for the 2026-27 season has been raised to eight, up from six in 2025-26.

At the end of the regular season, the five teams that reach the round robin stage of the playoffs will be able to add one new player to the roster and substitute three new players onto the roster. Last season, teams were allowed to add two reinforcements and make one substitution.

The two teams that emerge from the five-team, 16-game round robin to play in the best-of-seven championship series will be able to make one more addition to the roster in advance of the final series.

With more roster spots available to foreigners, the league is likely hoping to raise the level of play. Due to Venezuela's political and economic instability, the number of foreign Major League Baseball prospects sent to play in the league has declined over the past 20 years. The eight roster spots for imported players per team will likely be filled with a combination of veteran pitchers and power bats.

Season To Start Oct. 12 - The LVBP's 56-game regular season will begin on Oct. 12 with a game between the defending champion Navegantes del Magallanes against the Tiburones de La Guaira, and will conclude on Dec. 27.

The top five teams in the regular season will qualify for the 16-game round robin playoff that begins on Jan. 2, 2027, with the top two teams meeting in the LVBP championship series, which is scheduled to begin on Jan. 23, 2027.

The 2027 LVBP champion will represent the league at the 2027 Caribbean Series in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, while the runner-up will represent the league at the 2027 Serie de Las Americas, which will be held in Caracas, Venezuela.
