Panama’s Estadio Rod Carew, the country’s 27,000-seat ballpark in Panama City, has a new roof after months of work.
The completion of the park’s new roof was announced on July 31 by the Panamanian Institute of Sport, which said that the nearly $1 million project was completed on time and on budget.
The renovation was completed in eight months after the Panama City Fire Department ordered it closed for emergency repairs, forcing the 2026 Serie de las Americas to move to Estadio Mariano Rivera in La Chorrera, Panama and the aging Estadio Juan Demostenes Arosemena in Panama City because of the repairs to Estadio Rod Carew before it eventually was moved a second time to Caracas, Venezuela.
Estadio Rod Carew was also supposed to host the 2025 Copa America de Beisbol last November, but that event was postponed indefinitely with plans to hold it sometime before May 2026, but the event was never played.
Built in 1999, Estadio Rod Carew was renovated in 2021 at a cost of $6.6 million, with the installation of LED lighting, new seats, locker rooms, restrooms, and a new field. A second phase of the renovation started in 2021 but never completed, and in the years since, the stadium’s roof deteriorated, with metal roof panels being removed in 2024. Earlier this year, a portion of the roof collapsed onto a parked car, La Prensa Panama reported.
The ballpark has also been home to the games of Panama’s winter professional league, ProBeis, but that league did not play a season in 2025-26.
