Tocopilla is ready for baseball to take center stage once again.
The Serie Internacional de los Andes (International Andes Series) will bring national teams from Chile, Argentina and Peru together for four days of competition from Sept. 23-26, 2026, marking the return of senior-level international baseball to the Chilean commune.
The tournament will be played at the “Campeones por Siempre” Baseball Stadium, one of Chile’s most modern baseball facilities, as Tocopilla prepares to welcome three national teams for a highly anticipated regional showdown.
The series also provides a rematch of the 2024 South American Baseball Championship in Lima, Peru, where the three nations finished among the top four and established a competitive regional rivalry.
Chile Looks to Shine on Home Soil
Chile will have home-field advantage on its side. Baseball is deeply connected to Tocopilla’s identity, giving the Chilean national team an opportunity to compete in front of a passionate local crowd. Chile finished third at the 2024 South American Championship and will look to build on that performance with a roster featuring national talent and several players from Tocopilla.
The Chilean lineup features infielders Gabriel Valladares and Benjamin Meza, while outfielders Eduardo Lafuente and Felipe Flores add depth to the position-player group.
On the mound, starting pitcher Andres Sepulveda and reliever Cristian Diaz are expected to play important roles. Behind the plate, Rodrigo Mella and Juan Carlos Pizarro will handle catching duties.
Argentina Brings Championship Experience
Argentina enters as the reigning South American champion. Led by a core delegation from Salta, Argentina captured the gold medal at the 2024 South American Championship and returned to international competition looking to add another title to its résumé.
The Argentine infield includes veteran players Agustín Tissera, Exequiel Talevi, Jacinto Cipriota, Nicolás Alvarado and Sebastián Fontana.
In the outfield, Sebastián García, Julián Pedrouzo and Eduardo Zurbriggen provide athleticism and speed as Argentina looks to once again contend for the championship.
Peru Eyes a Championship Run
Peru arrives looking to change the outcome from 2024. The Peruvian national team finished fourth at the South American Championship in Lima, narrowly missing the podium behind Chile. Playing on Chilean soil, Peru will look to turn that result into motivation as it pursues the championship.
The Peruvian infield features Jorge Pastor and Alexandro Mori, while outfielders Daniel Liu and Giancarlo Kanashiro provide defensive coverage across the outfield.
On the pitching staff, Jonathan Farías and Ken Ishihara will be among the players tasked with keeping opposing offenses in check and giving Peru a chance to compete deep into the tournament.
Beyond the competition, the Serie Internacional de los Andes represents an important moment for Tocopilla. The tournament is part of the city’s anniversary celebrations and is being organized through a partnership between the Municipality of Tocopilla, the Tocopilla Sports Corporation and mining company SQM.
The event also invites the local community to be part of the celebration, with free admission for fans throughout the tournament. Families and baseball supporters are encouraged to fill the stands and support the three national teams competing in Tocopilla.
The return of international baseball gives the community an opportunity to showcase its baseball tradition while bringing high-level competition back to the city after a multi-year absence from hosting senior international tournaments.
With Argentina bringing championship experience, Chile defending home soil and Peru seeking redemption, the Serie Internacional de los Andes is set to put South American baseball back in the spotlight when the first pitch arrives Sept. 23.
