On Tuesday, August 25, country music superstar and widely loved humanitarian Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80.
Parton passed away at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Center in Nashville and had a brief battle with cancer, according to her publicist Marcel Pariseau.
Parton will be remembered by many for her hit songs such as "Jolene" and "9 to 5," as well as her efforts to make the world we live in a better place. One example of her humanitarian efforts was starting the Imagination Library in 1995 to help young children read books. These books are donated and handed out to children from infancy to age five for free.
Originally starting in Parton's home area of East Tennessee, Imagination Library has now impacted children in five different countries and has given away over 332,000,000 books.
Parton also dove into the baseball world. In 1987, she visited Yankee Stadium to hang out with some New York Yankees for her television series called "Dolly."

Parton appeared alongside some Yankees players in the third episode of "Dolly," which premiered on October 11, 1987.
The segment in the episode was titled "Out and About." The country star showed off her swing alongside four New York Yankees players inside Yankee Stadium. Those players were left-handed pitchers Dave Righetti and Ron Guidry, as well as catcher Rick Cerone and third baseman Mike Pagliarulo.
Not only did Parton get herself a hit, but she was also gifted a New York Yankees jacket and hat from the four players she visited with.
After all the fun with Parton subsided, the Yankees went on to finish the 1987 Major League Baseball season with an 89-73 record. They finished in fourth place in the American League East division behind the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, and Milwaukee Brewers.
