Friday’s Winter Ball Playoff Results

Caribes de Anzoategui (10-5) 9, Bravos de Margarita (3-11) 3 – Herlis Rodriguez hit two homers, a solo shot in the second and then a solo shot that was the first of back-to-back homers with Diego Infante an inning later as the Caribes won their 10th game of the playoffs and clinched a berth in the LVBP championship series. Rodriguez and Infante each went 3-for-4, as did catcher Jesus Sucre, who scored twice in the win. Carlos Perez and Ramon Flores homered for the Bravos in the loss.

Cardenales de Lara (8-6) 8, Aguilas del Zulia (7-8) 1 – Luisangel Acuna went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs, hitting RBI singles in the fourth and fifth, and Jesus Bastidas hit a two-run homer in the fifth to cap a seven-run inning as the Cardenales soared to their eighth win of the round robin to stay tied with the Navegantes del Magallanes for second place with two games to go. The loss eliminated Zulia, and the two berths in the finals will come down to the Caribes de Anzoategui and either the Cardenales or the Navegantes del Magallanes, who were idle Friday night.
