There is a new league leader in the LBPN after almost two weeks of the season have passed. Five games have been played this week, with four more scheduled before the weekend. Here are the news, notes, and what to watch in the LBPN as of Nov. 14.
Leones de Leon Winners of Their Last Three Games
Leones de Leon have come into their own as a baseball team as of late and are undefeated the week of Nov. 11 thus far. They continue their trend of late-game comebacks as in their first game of the week against Gigantes de Rivas, the Leones came back from a five-run deficit to win the game 9-8. After being down 6-1 after three innings, Leones scored five runs in the fifth to tie it and took a lead in the eight that they held on to. On Wednesday, Leones stayed hot and took both seven-inning games of the doubleheader at Estadio Rigoberto Lopez Perez stadium in Leon against Indios de Boer. They now have a record of 6-2 and are in first place in the LBPN standings.
Ernesto Glasgon and Omar Mendoza named Players of the Week
On Monday, Nov. 11, the LBPN named Tigres outfielder Omar Mendoza and Leones closing pitcher Ernesto Glasgon as the two players of the week for the week of Monday, Nov. 4. During that week, Mendoza played three games in left field. In those three games, he hit .500 in eight at-bats, hit two home runs, and had 6 RBIs. Glasgow was very effective as the closer for Leones, helping them go 3-1 during the week. He pitched 4 1/3 innings without allowing a run, picking up one win and saving two games for his team.
Indios de Boer Suffer Their First Two Losses
Indios de Boer was finally beaten, losing both games of a doubleheader to Leones de Leon on Wednesday, Nov. 13. They lost the first contest 5-4, as Leones used three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off Indios de Boer thanks to a Renate Morales walk-off single and a blown save by new Boer addition Zeke Wood. In the second game, Leones starter Luis Pena threw a complete game shutout to help his team win 3-0 as the Boer lineup was not able to get going. Indios de Boer are now 4-2, good for second place in the LBPN. Boer is tied with Tren del Norte for the teams in the LBPN who have played the least games.
