One Thing From Each MLB Division Series Game

The Tigers and Yankees both went into Game 4 with a chance to secure a spot in the American League Championship series, but only one team punched their ticket.

New York Yankees 3, Kansas City Royals 1: One season removed from losing 100-plus games, the Royals reached the American League Division Series. However, the magical run ended as the offense stalled out at home. The Yankees bullpen did not allow a single earned run in the series. Things got a little chippy at the end as Maikel Garcia and Anthony Volpe got into a heated exchange after a physical slide into second base by Garcia. Gerrit Cole went seven strong innings, allowing just one run.

Cleveland Guardians 5, Detroit Tigers 4: A back-and-forth game ended with the Guardians forcing Game 5. David Fry delivered a go-ahead, pinch-hit home run in the seventh inning. In the ninth inning, he delivered a sacrifice bunt as the Guardians plated an insurance run on a suicide squeeze. The Guardians will host a winner-take-all Game 5 on October 12.
