Coming off a loss against the Netherlands yesterday, Panama was able to bounce back on day two and beat Venezuela 4-2 at Estadio Panamericano on Sunday in the Premier12.

The game started out back and forth. Ramon Flores hit an RBI double scoring Alexi Armarista to give Venezuela the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Carlos Quiroz got Panama on the board and tied the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning to tie it 1-1. Then, Panama would take the lead in the bottom of the third when lead-off hitter Edgard Muñoz hit an RBI single up the middle to make it a 2-1 game.

Venezuela answered back in the top of the fourth inning with a balk called on Panama pitcher Dario Agrazal. That would score Jermaine Palacios, tying the game up at 2-2.

Both teams remained neck and neck for most of the middle innings until the bottom of the sixth inning. This is when Panama went ahead into control with a sac fly by Ruben Tejada which scored Muñoz making it 3-2. Jhonny Santos then hit a solo home run to extend Panama’s lead to 4-2.  Muñoz and Santos led the way in hitting for Panama as they had two hits each.

Enrique Burgos did a great job in closing out the game for the Panamanians. He pitched the final 2 1/3 innings and recorded two strikeouts. He also gave up no hits, walks, or runs during his stretch.

Both Panama and Venezuela are now 1-1 in the Premier12 following their first two games.

Panama’s next game will be against Mexico in Estadio Panamericano on Monday, Nov. 11. The first pitch will be at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Venezuela will try to bounce back from their loss today in a game against the United States in Tepic, Mexico at Coloso Del Pacifico. The game will be on Monday, Nov. 11, with the first pitch also at 9:00 p.m. EST.
