Panama Defeats Mexico 3-2 For Second Premier12 Win

Every team in Group A entered play today with a 1-1 record in Premier12. Last night’s matchup between Panama and Mexico was played at Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, Mexico. Wilfredo Pereira got the ball for Panama, and he faced Teddy Stankiewicz for Mexico. Panama defeated Mexico 3-2.

The first inning of the game got interesting with two outs and Johan Camargo on base. Jhonny Santos ripped a ball into the gap for what looked like an RBI double, but Camargo was seen limping on his way home and thrown out by Alan Trejo. But in the bottom half, Alonso Gaitan took the first pitch he saw and annihilated it for the leadoff home run to grab Mexico an early 1-0 lead. Tres Barrera would join in on the action in the second inning, blasting a solo home run for Mexico to go up 2-0.

After a leadoff double from Panama’s Ruben Tejada in the fourth, he was able to come around and score on an RBI groundout from Carlos Quiroz, for Panama to trail behind at 2-1. The next batter, Jose Ramos, would tie this game with an RBI double to tie things at two apiece.

The game remained tied until the Panamanians got the lead back, thanks to Quiroz hitting a sac-fly that scored Tejada. This made it a 3-2 game in the 8th inning.

Alberto Baldonado would close out the game with a “1-2-3″ inning. This included striking out the hot-hitting Gaitan to record the final out.

Panama will be right back at it tomorrow night, where they will face the United States at 9 PM EST. They will play at Coloso del Pacifico in Tepic, Mexico. As for Mexico, they’ll go up against the Netherlands on November 13 at Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, Mexico, with the first pitch set for 9 PM EST.
