PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have given left-hander Cristopher Sanchez a four-year contract extension through the 2028 season.

The Phillies announced the signing on Saturday, adding future stability to the back end of their starting rotation.

The contract begins for the 2025 season and includes club options for 2029 and 2030. Terms of the deal were not announced. Philadelphia bought out all of Sanchez’s arbitration-eligible years, which began in 2026.

Sanchez, 27, has been a strong presence since joining the starting rotation on a regular basis midway through the 2023 season. He’s 4-3 with a 2.91 ERA in 14 starts this season, allowing one home run in 77 1/3 innings.

With the Sanchez signing, the Phillies have starters Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola locked up through the 2027 season. Ranger Suarez, who has 10 wins and is second in the National League with a 1.75 ERA, has one arbitration year remaining before becoming a free agent.
