The Pirates are offering a historic amount for a piece of Paul Skenes’ historic season.
Months after Skenes capped off his historic 5.9 WAR, 11-3 rookie season, the Pittsburgh Pirates have announced a historic package in exchange for a Skenes’ 1/1 Debut Patch card.
The package, which includes 30 years of season tickets behind home plate, also includes a softball game at PNC Park, a private tour of the Pirates’ Spring training facility, a meet-and-greet with Skenes, and two autographed jerseys.
The Topps card, which is the only one of its kind, is signed by Skenes and has a large MLB Debut patch throughout the middle. The Pirates are certainly offering a bounty for this unique card, which indicates the significance of Skenes’ rookie season.
The first overall pick in 2023, Skenes made his debut on May 11th, striking out seven and topping 100 mph 17 times against the Chicago Cubs. The rest of his season, somehow, was more impressive.
Skenes finished with a 1.96 ERA, an All-Star selection, a CY Young Award finalist, and is the presumed front-runner for the NL Rookie of the Year. Somehow, the unbelievable bounty the Pirates are offering for his one-of-a-kind card is more impressive.
