Puerto Rico and the Netherlands faced off tonight in a Premier12 matchup at Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara, Mexico. Agnel Martinez got the nod for Puerto Rico and was tasked with facing Tom de Blok of the Netherlands. The Netherlands would crush Puerto Rico 20-8.
The Netherlands wasted no time beginning the game. Didi Gregorius led off the action with a solo blast, his second leadoff home run of Premier12. Hendrik Clementina joined the party, blasting a solo home run, and the Netherlands took a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom half, Puerto Rico would respond right back, as Ezequiel Pagan powered a solo home run to bring Puerto Rico their first run of the night.
After a double and a walk-off of Puerto Rico’s Agnel Miranda, he would be pulled from the game for Ojani Chacon. First batter he faced, Didi Gregorius, would plate both runners, as Gregorius would hustle to second, adding to the lead. Chacon was replaced by Ruben Ramirez, where a wild pitch cost a run with the bases loaded, and a fielder’s choice from Sharlon Schoop and an RBI single from Juremi Profar saw the Netherlands lead increase to 7-1.
John Montes got a hold of one in the bottom of the second inning for a solo home run, as Puerto Rico still trailed 7-2.
A fielding miscue in the top of the third inning after a ball hit into shallow left-center from Jonathan Schoop scored one more run. The next batter, Hendrik Clementina, would drive home two more on a two-run double. Juremi Profar also hit a sac fly to extend the Netherlands lead to 11-2.
No signs of slowing down in the fourth, Gregorius laced an RBI single, followed by a Jonathan Schoop RBI double that saw the Netherlands lead go up to 14-2. A few batters later, his brother Sharlon would bring them both home, hitting a towering two-run home run, increasing the lead to 16-2. Jonathan Schoop would add his fourth RBI on the day, hitting an RBI double to advance to 17-2.
Puerto Rico added four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cut into the lead. Shawn Ross got an RBI knock, scoring Edgardo Villegas. Then, a throwing error by the Netherlands allowed two other Puerto Rico runs to score. Sabin Ceballos capped it off with an RBI knock to make it 17-6.
The Netherlands had another big inning in the seventh as Clementia added to his big night with a three-run homer that made it 20-6. He had a 5 RBI night when it was all said and done.
Yadiel Rivera would wrap up the scoring in the game via the run rule with a two-run double, making it 20-8 as the Netherlands would go on to win.
