The Dodgers are reportedly signing 17-year-old outfielder Ko Ching-Hsien from Taiwan, as first reported by Francys Romero.
According to several outlets, the contract is expected to include a signing bonus of around $700,000, and a press conference to announce the deal is on June 17.
Ching-Hsien, a lefty batter who throws righty, is an athletic outfielder who flashed his skills in the 2023 U-18 Baseball World Cup.
Throughout the tournament, Ching-Hsien batted .550 with a home run and seven walks. He started all but one of Taiwan’s games and helped the team to a record of 8-1 and a second-place finish in the tournament.
Ching-Hsien, who is expected to join the Dodgers’ minor league system once he finishes high school, will look to continue the Dodgers’ recent success in signing Asian-born players, including Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Yamamoto is 6-2 with a 3.32 ERA through 12 starts. Ohtani is hitting .318 with 15 home runs and 40 RBI.
