Roki Sasaki Meets with New York Mets

According to SNY’s Andy Martino, the New York Mets met with superstar free agent pitcher Roki Sasaki on Thursday, Dec. 19. The 23-year-old is one of the best available starting pitchers remaining on the market.

The only other team that had a reported meeting scheduled with Sasaki was the New York Yankees, who are set to meet with him in Southern California in the coming days. It is likely Sasaki will sign at some point in mid-January.

It could be intriguing to see the Mets pursue Sasaki, as they’ve added three starting pitchers in free agency so far, adding Frankie Montas, Clay Holmes, and Griffin Canning for the rotation. The Mets are coming off one of their strongest seasons, so it will be fascinating if they decide to focus all their efforts on Sasaki or if they will backtrack and look for a veteran starting pitcher in free agency.
