Sandro Fabián and Esmil Rogers of the Toros del Este both were awarded LIDOM’s MVP for the fifth week of the season.
Fabian, who received 32 votes in his second straight week winning the award, was 8-24 over six games with a pair of home runs and seven RBIs.
The 25-year-old’s two-week outburst has improved his slash line to .261/.246/.522 on the year, his OPS is up to an impressive .867 and he’s blasted five home runs.
His biggest outburst of the week came in the form of a 3-5 day in a Toros del Este 7-6 win. He’s hitting .350 over 12 games in November.
Rogers received 39 votes and earned the pitcher’s side of the award, his impressive season only further benefiting from the recent outburst.
The 39-year-old veteran has recorded a 2.19 ERA with 18 strikeouts over 24.2 innings pitched. He’s recorded a pair of wins.
Rogers, who is in the midst of his 14th season in LIDOM, threw five innings of one-hit ball in the Toros’ 5-1 win over Gigantes del Cibao last Sunday.
Despite the two players’ prowess, Toros del Este have still struggled to perform nearly a month into the season. Through 25 games they are at the bottom of the LIDOM standings at 10-15.
However, with the consistent success of Fabián and Rogers, brighter days may soon be ahead for a team that is just a game out of moving into fourth place.
Toros will finish their series with the Leones del Escogido before opening up a slate of games against Gigantes del Cibao this weekend.
