While the MLB features the best of the best, there is no shortage of talent in Nippon Professional Baseball, the Korean Baseball Organization, Liga Mexicana de Béisbol, or the Chinese Professional Baseball League. Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, Francisco Lindor, and Emmanuel Clase are rightfully recognized as the best at their positions worldwide. Ohtani and Judge are favorites to win MVP in their respective leagues. Ohtani made history with his 50-50 season while also winning the World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Meanwhile, Lindor carried the Mets all the way to the National League Championship Series after their season looked to be all but finished. Clase led the American League in saves for the third consecutive season.
Robinson Canó’s Amazing Season
Robinson Canó led the LMB in hits and batting average as he was named MVP in 2024. The veteran second baseman hit 14 home runs and recorded 77 RBIs in 78 games. He was a key player in the Diablos Rojos championship season. Canó hit four home runs in the postseason alone.
Elite Relievers Overseas
Jun Hai-young recorded 31 saves in 34 opportunities for the Kia Tigers. He recorded 50 strikeouts in 50 1/3 innings of work on his way to leading the KBO in saves.
Raidel Martínez appeared in 60 games for the Chunichi Dragons in 2024. In 58 innings of work, he had a 1.09 ERA, 43 saves, and 59 strikeouts. He had a 0.810 WHIP as well.
Trevor Bauer Highlights Starting Pitchers
It has been a long time since Trevor Bauer took the mound in an MLB Game. However, he had a phenomenal season in the LMB. In 14 starts, he had a 2.48 ERA, 120 strikeouts, and was named pitcher of the year. He was a key part of the Diablos Rojos championship season.
Shosei Togo had a 1.95 ERA in 26 games in the NPB. He was a candidate to win the Eiji Sawamura Award before the committee decided there would be no winner in 2024. He threw four complete games and three shutouts. Kohei Arihara was also a dominant force in the NPB. He had a 2.36 ERA and threw three complete games. In 26 games, he struck out 137 batters.
Nivaldo Rodriguez had the third-best ERA in the CPBL and the second-most strikeouts. He struck out 156 in 26 starts. Hitters had a .236 average against him on the season.
KBO Stars Shined in 2024
Matt Davidson made his debut in the KBO this season. He hit 46 home runs and held a .306 batting average.
Second to him in home runs was 21-year-old Kim Do-yeong. He hit 38 home runs and stole 40 bases in 2024. He also had a staggering .347 batting average. He played stellar defense throughout the season to go along with his work at the plate. He will be in strong contention for the league’s MVP Award.
Koo Ja-wook had a phenomenal season at 31 years old. He hit a career-high 33 home runs while playing a steady defense in the outfield.
