The 2015 Premier12 champions in South Korea came into today’s action at 1-2, facing the 1-2 Dominican Republic. South Korea sent out Im Chan-Kyu, who was tasked with facing Franklyn Kilome of the Dominican Republic. South Korea was able to climb back putting together two big innings in the sixth and the eighth to win 9-6.
After Arismendy Alcantara started the second inning with a single, he would swipe two bags to make it to third. Michael De Leon would ground into a double play a few batters laters, but Alcantara was able to score to get the Dominican Republic ahead 1-0. They would add another three runs in the fourth, with Alcantara adding a two-run homer, and an RBI single from Alen Hanson.
The next inning, Alcantara provided his second home run of the game, as the Dominicans saw their lead extend to 5-0. They would also add another run in the sixth, courtesy of another Alen Hanson RBI single to go up 6-0.
But South Korea was able to respond back in the bottom of the sixth. After two walks and a ground out to begin the frame, Shin Min-jae reached on a throwing error, allowing Park Seong-han and Choi Won-jun to score for Korea to inch closer. Moon Bo-gyeong brought Shin home on an RBI double, followed by another RBI double from Park Dong-won for South Korea to trail, 6-4.
Looking to hold the lead in the eighth, the Dominican Republic turned to Diego Castillo. The game would not go his way, with Song Sung-mun grabbed an RBI single that was followed by a two-run triple from Park Seong-han to take the lead and an RBI double from Choi Won-jun. Castillo would be replaced by Victor Lopez, and Hong Chang-ki drove in Choi Won-jun to score a run off of Lopez with an RBI single to cap off an inning where South Korea had taken a 9-6 lead.
Park Yeong-hyun was able to close out the game getting a flyout, and Alen Hanson grounded out into a 6-4-3 double play for South Korea in Group B of Premier12 to officially defeat the Dominican Republic 9-6.
South Korea will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow, when they serve as hosts to Australia at Taipei Tianmu Stadium in Taipei City. First pitch set for 11PM EST. The Dominican Republic will play next on Nov. 18, hosting Samurai Japan at 5:00. a.m. EST, also at Taipei Tianmu Stadium.
