The games for the fifth and final day of the Baseball European Federation Cup Qualifiers in Sweden took place on June 15 at Skarpnack Baseballpark.
Stockholm Baseboll (Sweden) 13, Kaunus County (Lithuania) 7
Stockholm Baseboll was up 3-0 going into the fifth and put the game against Kaunus County out of reach with a three-run triple from third baseman Leo Quaglia against relief pitcher William Gordon. The triple made it 8-0 and they would tack on one more run in a six-run frame. Quaglia had an epic game with a team-leading six RBI and went 4-for-5.
Quaglia led the European Federation Cup Sweden Qualifiers with eight RBI. Soren Henrik Hansen led all hitters with nine runs and 22 strikeouts on the mound.
Stockholm Baseboll starting pitcher Lucas Lindh kept Kaunus County in check with four scoreless innings and five strikeouts. Reliever Lins Holmberg got the win, pitching 2.1 innings with two runs allowed. He got the last out of the fifth and was pulled after the seventh.
Gordon took the loss for Kaunus County, pitching 4.2 innings with nine runs allowed, but only three were earned.
First baseman Yainer Godinez Ramirez also had a big game going 4-for-4 for Stockholm Baseboll, with a double, and two RBI.
Stockholm Baseboll cruised to a 13-7 victory and went 4-0 in the round-robin to earn a spot for Sweden in the Federation Cup next year. Kaunas County went 1-3 in the qualifiers and finished fourth place out of five teams.
London Capitals (Great Britain) 16, Tempere Tigers (Finland) 1 (5 innings)
The London Capitals went up 4-0 in the first, and due to the mercy rule, they completely dominated the Tempere Tigers 16-1 in just five innings.
The hit that put the game out of reach was a two-run single by Jeurys Lewin Feliple Mambru in the second to make it 6-0. Mambru was 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Starting pitcher Masa Hashiguchi pitched five innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts for the win. Nothing was working for the Tempere Tigers. They had zero answers on the mound or in the batters’ box.
Ben Marcal hit a two-run home run in the fourth, leading the London Capitals with four RBIs. His home run gave them a commanding 15-1 lead. He went 1-for-2 with the home run, walk, and a sacrifice fly. Catcher Leo Cedeno was also critical in the win. He had three RBI and was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Every starter on the London Capitals got a hit, and they got 13 hits in total. The London Capitals finished 2-2 in the qualifiers, and the Tempere Tigers were 0-4.
