The Tennessee Volunteers landed another big-time recruit this past week. On Jan. 18, Gary Morse, a right-handed pitcher in the 2026 class, announced his commitment to Tennessee via X.

He choose the Volunteers over other great baseball schools like Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, and Oregon.

Morse is the number one right-hander in the state of California among the 2026 class. He is from the town of Bellflower and currently plays for Orange Lutheran High School.

In Prep Baseball California’s rankings from September, he was ranked as the sixth-best player from the state in the 2026 class. He is a top 100 player overall in the class.

Morse is a towering prospect standing six feet and eight inches tall.

The California right-hander is just another big addition for Tennessee and head coach Tony Vitello as they continue to recruit at a high level. This has been the latest of big commitments that include other players like Billy Carlson, Cameron Appenzeller, and Kruz Schoolcraft

Morse’s commitment keeps the Volunteers ranked third-overall in Perfect Game’s 2026 high school recruiting rankings. They currently sit behind Texas and LSU and are ahead of Vanderbilt and Stanford in the top five.

After bringing home the number one overall high school class in 2024, Vitello has Tennessee slotted third overall in both the 2025 and 2026 cycles.
