The Road to Mexicali: Cardenales de Lara Win LVBP Title; Tigres del Licey Even LIDOM Series

Cardenales de Lara 9, Bravos de Margarita 0 – The Cardenales got a two-run homer from Rangel Ravelo in the first, added five more runs in the second and two more in the third, and then cruised to their seventh LVBP championship, taking the series four games to two from Margarita.

In the second, Hernan Perez had an RBI double, Gorkys Hernandez had an RBI single, and Ravelo drove in another run with a single. Eduardo Garcia’s fourth homer of the playoffs, a two-run shot in the third, drove in the final two runs for Lara.

Starter Adrian Almeida threw 5 1/3 shutout innings, allowing three hits, three walks, and striking out five before handing the ball off. The bullpen allowed two hits and a walk over 3 2/3 innings, striking out five.

LIDOM

Tigres del Licey 7, Leones del Escogido 4 (13 Innings) – Harold Ramirez’ two-run single in the top of the 13th sent Michael De Leon home with the winning run, and Sergio Alcantara followed with an RBI single that sent Gustavo Nunez home with an insurance run as Licey forced a deciding game seven.

Francisco Mejia’s solo homer in the first inning got Licey out to a 1-0 lead, but the Leones battled back and took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eighth on Yamaico Navarro’s sac fly that scored Socrates Brito.

In the top of the ninth, Nunez clubbed a two-run homer to left center that tied the game at four apiece.

Panamanian pitcher Andy Otero, generally used as a starter, threw the final three innings in relief for the Tigres, allowing a hit and two walks, striking out two and earning the win.

Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico

Charros de Jalisco 3, Tomateros de Culiacan 2 – Jalisco starter Manny Banuelos outdueled Culiacan’s Odrisamer Despaigne, allowing one run on six hits over six innings and striking out six. Rhe Charros took a 3-2 series lead when Mateo Gil singled home Jose Angel Cecena in the bottom of the ninth.

Gil went 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI, and two walks for the Charros, and Jack Mayfield went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Despaigne, who came to Culiacan before the LAMP championship series as a reinforcement, threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and five walks, striking out six.
