The Road to Mexicali: Charros de Jalisco Knock Off Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Advance to LAMP Championship Series

Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico

Charros de Jalisco 14, Naranjeros de Hermosillo 2 – Billy Hamilton led off the game with a solo homer, and the Charros jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first and kept pouring on the offense, winning game five and the series in a blowout. Reynaldo Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Jack Mayfield went 3-for-4 with three runs scored for Jalisco, which clubbed 19 hits and drew six walks. Starter Manny Banuelos allowed one run on four hits over six innings, walking three and striking out four before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Four relievers combined to allow one walk and strike out three over the final three innings.

Tomateros de Culiacan 4, Caneros de Los Mochis 2 – Joey Meneses went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and drove in the go-ahead run with a triple in the sixth as the Tomateros took a 3-2 series lead. Starter Manny Barreda threw 7 1/3 innings for Culiacan, allowing one run on three hits, walking one and striking out 14 to earn the win. Marco Jaime drove in both of the Caneros’ runs, one with a solo homer in the eighth and another with a single in the bottom of the ninth. Game six will be played Saturday in Culiacan at a time yet to be determined.

Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional

Cardenales de Lara (11-4) 7, Aguilas del Zulia (6-9) 1 – Jose Rondon went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and two runs scored as the Cardenales won their 11th game of the 16-game round robin. Six Lara pitchers combined to allow one run on eight hits and three walks, striking out 10.

Bravos de Margarita (11-5) 13, Tigres de Aragua (4-11) 4 – Anthony Jimenez went 3-for-4 with a homer, a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored as the Bravos concluded their round robin schedule with a win. The Bravos will begin the LVBP championship series against the Cardenales de Lara on Saturday.
