The Road to Mexicali: Senadores de San Juan Win, Extend Series In LBPRC

Senadores de San Juan 7, Mayaguez 5 – Ruben Tejada went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, and Kenen Irizarry went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored as the Senadores won game five of the best-of-nine series to avoid the sweep. Starter Julian Garcia allowed three runs on five hits over six innings of work, walking three and striking out two for San Juan. Bryan Torres and Emmanuel Rivera each had two hits and a run scored for Mayaguez, which leads the series four games to one.

LIDOM

Leones del Escogido 6, Tigres del Licey 0 – Longtime MLB starter Johnny Cueto threw six innings of shutout baseball, allowing four hits, striking out three and walking none, as the Leones took a 2-1 lead in the LIDOM championship series. Junior Caminero continued his outstanding postseason, driving in Escogido’s first run with a sac fly in the first and their last two with a two-run single in the fourth that scored Jose Siri and Socrates Brito. Licey mustered just six baserunners in the game and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

Cardenales de Lara 9, Bravos de Margarita 2 – Rangel Ravelo’s fourth homer of the the playoffs, a two-run shot in the top of the first, scored Harold Castro and got Lara out to a 2-0 lead, and they didn’t look back, adding seven more over the course of the game, never trailing as they cut the Bravos’ series lead to 2-1. Castro went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a walk, and an RBI for the Cardenales, and Danry Vasquez and Ildemaro Vargas each had three-hit nights for the Redbirds. The Lara bullpen held fast after the first out of the sixth, not allowing a hit the rest of the way and shutting down the Bravos.

Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico

Charros de Jalisco 2, Tomateros de Culiacan 1 (14 Innings) – Carlos Mendevil’s single in the top of the 14th scored Reynaldo Rodriguez, and the Charros’ Trevor Clifton induced three flyouts in the bottom of the 14th to earn the win as Jalisco evened the series at one game apiece. Rodriguez drove in the Charros first run with a ground ball to first in the seventh that scored Julian Ornelas from third. Jalisco starter Rafael Medrano threw six innings, allowing one run on three hits, walking one and striking out three before turning over the ball. The Charros bullpen allowed two hits and four walks over eight innings and struck out four.
