The 2024 baseball season is ending, and 2025 is rapidly approaching. Now is a perfect time to look at the top 10 social media moments for all of 2024.

  1. Anthony Volpe is a star at the Little League Classic

The Little League Classic is one of baseball’s premier special events, where little leaguers meet and talk to their favorite players. No one was bigger in this past classic than Anthony Volpe of the Yankees, who arrived to a huge group of kids cheering his name. The video from WBN racked in a quarter of a million views.

  1. Hideki Matsui hits a homer at the Tokyo Dome 

A hidden gem on social media this past year was the video of 50-year-old Hideki Matsui hitting a long home run at the Tokyo Dome as his manager, Ichiro Suzuki, watched on in awe. It was a coming-home moment for Matsui, who had not hit a home run in the dome in a long time. The video was huge on social media, especially with Yankee fans, as it racked up over 1.8 million views!

  1. A’s fan catches three foul balls in one inning

Every fan dreams of going to a baseball game and catching a foul ball or a home run. Most fans might only ever catch two or three their entire life. Except for this A’s fan who caught three foul balls in the same inning! The video blew up on social media with the help of the excellent commentary by Dallas Braden. Several videos were posted about it, each getting over 100,000 views, and even an article on MLB.com about it!

  1. Cam Cannarella Willie Mays Catch

The College Baseball World Series is a massive event and has given fans some of the best viral moments in recent history. None of them come close to how Cam Cannarella set social media on fire this past year with his incredible Willie Mays-style catch. With the game tied at nine and runners on first and second, Florida hit the ball deep into center, where Cam Cannarella turned his back to the field and made an incredible catch to end the inning and keep Clemson alive! The video racked in over 1.5 million views!

  1. Taiwan win the Premier12

The Premier12 was the biggest international baseball tournament this year and is considered the runner-up to the incredible World Baseball Classic. Going into it, Japan was once again considered the odds-on favorite, and rightfully so. Taiwan set social media on fire with its shocking shutout win in the finals against Japan. The videos alone dominated social media for up to a week after the game. The video that went viral the most was the Mandarin call, which shows the pure excitement of watching their country win its first big baseball tournament.

  1. Jose Siri stolen base

LIDOM winter ball produces some of the most exciting and viral videos every winter, and this year did not disappoint. Jose Siri just the other week stole third base but over slid; he ran home and somehow juked out the catcher and scored to complete one of the most incredible stolen bases and runs in recent memory. The video exploded on X and racked in over 2.7 million views!

  1. Roki Sasaki Posting

Unlike the others on this list, this one is not a video but a shocking moment. Roki Sasaki, who many expected to wait two more years to get a big contract, was posted. This set all of baseball social media on fire, pushing for their team to sign the young, hard-throwing righty. Even a month after it was announced that he would be posted, Roki still dominates the pitching market on social media and will continue to do so until he is signed after January 15.

  1. Yokohama DeNA BayStars shock the NPB and win it all

In one of the most shocking upsets in recent memory, the deNA Baystars crawled back from a 2-0 series deficit, shocked the NPB, and won it all. From many NPB fans this matchup was considered a David vs Goliath story, and it did not disappoint as the BayStars would claim their first title since 1998. The video collected over 14 million views!

  1. Ohtani 50th homer to seal the 50/50 season 

There is not enough space to truly talk about how great of a season Ohtani had this year. He became the first player to win an MVP as a DH and was the first to record a 50/50 season. Home run number 50 home run set social media on fire as it was a record that truly may never be broken. The video racked in over 16 million views and capped off an incredible game and season for potentially the greatest player to ever play baseball

  1. Yankee fans steal ball out of Mookie Betts’ Glove

The number one viral moment of the year came during the World Series at Yankee Stadium. Mookie Betts reached into the stands to catch a ball, but when he tried to bring his glove back, he was met by fans who physically took the ball out of Mookie’s glove. It was one of the craziest moments in recent memory and set social media on fire, with tons of people calling for the fans to be banned from attending a game forever. The video has racked up over 8.5 million views on one post, with many others reaching one million.
