Top Three Players from Chinese Taipei’s 2024 Premier12 Championship Team

On Sunday, Chinese Taipei defeated Japan 4-0 to win the Premier12 title. This was their first championship in the event, and they handed the Japanese their only loss. Overall, Chinese Taipei finished 6-3.

Now that Premier12 is over, here is a look at Taipei’s top contributors during its championship run.

  1. Li Lin

Li Lin was an anchor within Taipei’s lineup throughout the event. He finished with a .313 batting average and a .781 OPS. His ten hits in Premier12 landed him second on the team throughout the tournament.

His big moment came during a five-hit performance against Australia on Nov. 17. This included his only home run of the tournament as he totaled 4 RBI throughout the whole game.

He also had a big game in the world championship final against Japan. He finished with two hits and scored one of the four runs in the game.

Lin was a huge presence in Chinese Taipei’s lineup, and his big-time hitting moments during Premier12 earned him a spot on this list.

  1. Yi Chang

Yi Chang was Taipei’s “no funny business” reliever during the tournament. Manager Hao-Jiu Tseng went to him often out of the bullpen as he made five appearances during the tournament.

Chang pitched 8.0 innings, striking out nine batters and giving up four hits and a walk. Most impressively, he did not give up a single earned run during Premier12.

He also earned three wins during the tournament against Korea Australia, and the championship against Japan on Sunday. During those wins against Australia and Japan, he had three strikeouts in each and gave up just three hits in the two games combined.

Taipei’s pitching had stood out throughout the tournament, and Chang played a massive role.

  1. Chieh-Hsien Chen

Chieh-Hsien Chen was not only the best hitter on Chinese Taipei, but he has a case to be one of the best hitters during Premier12 in 2024.

In 24 at-bats, he finished with a .625 average and an on-base percentage of .700. Chen was also able to draw four walks. He had two home runs during the tournament. One was against Korea during pool play, and the other was against Japan on Sunday in the world championship final.

His three-run home run against Japan in the fifth inning was the ultimate play that gave Chinese Taipei the edge to capture their first Premier12 championship.

In the seven games he played in, Chen recorded a hit in all of them and had multiple hits in five of the games.

He made the all-world team and is one of the standout players in the Premier12.
