Troy Advances to Their First-Ever College World Series, Defeats Little Rock 7-2

TROY, Ala. – On Saturday, June 6, the Troy Trojans defeated the Little Rock Trojans 7-2 in game two of the Troy super regional at Riddle-Pace Field. With the win, Troy will make their first-ever appearance in the College World Series in Omaha.

Troy head coach Skylar Meade summed up the historic day for Troy’s baseball program.

“How about those Trojans,” said Meade. “We had the right mentality and played baseball, and because of that, we are heading to Omaha.”

Tommy Egan puts together a massive start for Troy

Tommy Egan started on the mound for Troy against Little Rock in game two of the super regional. He delivered an outing that included a season-high in innings pitched.

In 7 1/3 innings of work, Egan allowed just two runs and struck out eight Little Rock hitters. Troy built a 5-2 lead while Egan was on the mound, making Egan’s effort very important in the win.

The right-handed senior from Chicago talked about his outing on the mound that sent Troy to the College World Series.

“My last outings have been rough,” Egan said. “So, I just went out there and tried to fill up the zone. I also got some juice from the crowd. Being in a super regional is insane, and so many kids want to be in my position. I just had to take advantage.”

Meade added a comment on what he thought about Egan’s start

“It was his masterpiece in a Troy uniform,” he said.

Troy’s fast start and big ninth inning

Drew Nelson was responsible for another fast start for Troy against Little Rock. After an RBI triple in the second inning during game one, Nelson once again got Troy’s first runs on the scoreboard with a two-run double in the first inning of game two.

Troy added a run in the second and third innings by way of an Aaron Piasecki sacrifice fly and a Steven Meier RBI single. This gave Troy a 3-0 lead on Little Rock.

Heading toward the end of the game, Little Rock was hanging around. They faced a 5-2 deficit heading into the ninth inning. Troy would add some needed insurance as Sydney, Australia-native Blake Cavill came up big in a huge spot. He had a big two-run single in the ninth inning that made it a 7-2 game.

Up next for Troy

Troy will face off against the West Virginia Mountaineers for their first-ever College World Series game at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.

The date and time for that game are to be determined.
