UConn left-handed pitcher Charlie West is putting together a solid season in the Cape Cod League for the Brewster Whitecaps. In four total starts and 16 2/3 innings of work, he has a 2.16 ERA and 26 strikeouts.
He currently leads the 2026 Cape Cod League in strikeouts. West sits five punch-outs ahead of Pepperdine’s Casey Euper and High Point’s Wade Walton, who are tied for the second-most strikeouts in the Cape Cod League this summer.
West and his career with the UConn Huskies
The 2026 college baseball season was West’s junior year with the UConn Huskies. The New York-native transitioned from a bullpen role in 2025 to a starter role this past season.
In 87 1/3 innings of work, West had a 4.23 ERA and 111 strikeouts. He was top ten in the Big East in ERA and led the Big East in strikeouts. West was also top 30 in all of college baseball in strikeouts this past season.
The left-hander picked up six wins on the mound with UConn this season. His best performance of the season came against the Butler Bulldogs on April 14. West had a season-high 14 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work. He also allowed just three hits and gave up no runs.
The left-hander played a role in UConn having the best pitching staff in the Big East. The Huskies led the conference in team ERA by a wide margin. UConn had a 4.45 team ERA and was ahead of second-place Creighton, which had a 5.47 team ERA. The Huskies also led the Big East in strikeouts with 495 as a team.
In 2026, West was named first-team All-Big East alongside three other UConn players. The other Huskies who were first-team All-Big East in 2026 were Cayden Suchy, Jackson Marshall, and Peyton Jemison.
West also had a big-time 2025 season with UConn. That year, the southpaw had a 2.58 ERA out of the bullpen and pitched a total of 52 1/3 innings. Over that same stretch, West allowed an opposing batting average of .162 and struck out 59 hitters.
Although he was mostly a reliever, West did make eight starts out of his 15 total appearances in 2025.
2026 season results for UConn
In 2026, the UConn Huskies finished with a 32-26 overall record and were 15-6 in Big East play. For the sixth-straight season, the Huskies won the Big East regular season title. However, they missed out on making the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.
