Last week, the Tennessee Volunteers received news of a transfer addition in the middle of the 2025 college baseball season. UNC Asheville right-hander Clay Edmondson announced via Instagram that he would be heading to Knoxville for his graduate year.

In the post, he talked about the exciting opportunity that is playing baseball for Tennessee.

I am very excited to announce that I have officially committed to the University of Tennessee for my last year of college baseball!” Edmondson posted. “I just want to say thank you to my family for supporting me through this decision as well as my teammates and coaches at UNCA for giving me a wonderful 3 years and will forever be a Bulldog! I will forever cherish the memories made, and friendships made over the years!”

Edmondson is in his third season with the Bulldogs, and he is having a spectacular year, posting a 1.92 ERA in 11 starts. He has a 5-1 record and has struck out 73 batters while only walking 22. He also has allowed an opposing batting average of just .217.

Edmondson’s most recent start came on April 25 against Radford. In that matchup, he went 7 2/3 innings and struck out eight opposing batters., allowing just one earned run.

In Edmondson, Tennessee is getting a transfer who has earned pitcher of the week honors in the Big South conference twice this season. Edmondson is draft eligible in 2025, and could potentially play professional baseball instead of going to Knoxville in 2026.
