On Thursday, the United States and Mexico played a critical game at Estadio Panamericano as a win came with Premier12 super round implications. The United States got a 12-2 win in seven innings to advance to Tokyo for the super round.

Mexico jumped out early in the first inning, taking advantage of a U.S. error. Andres Alvarez scored off pitcher Rich Hill’s bad throw, giving Mexico a 1-0 lead.

Then, Termarr Johnson launched a two-run home run in the second inning. Just like that, the United States got back on top with a 2-1 lead. Justin Crawford homered the next inning and extended the U.S. lead to 3-1.

Then, a fielder’s choice play allowed Chandler Simpson to score making it 4-1 in favor of the United States.

More scoring came for the U. S. in the fourth inning as both Simpson and catcher Chris Okay got RBI knocks to extend the lead to 6-1.

In the fifth inning, Ryan Ward hit a home run, continuing to showcase his power in this Premier12 tournament. The U.S. lead extended to 7-1. A bases-loaded walk on Simpson scored another run for the United States, making it 8-1.

Matt Shaw put the seal on the United States’ offensive explosion as he hit a bases-clearing triple to make it an 11-1 game. This resulted in a five-run fifth inning.

Ward added on for the United States again with his second home run of the game, making it 12-1 in the sixth inning.

Alan Trejo hit his second home run of Premier12, making it 12-2. However, the game ended after that by way of a run-rule.

Thus, the United States and Venezuela clinched a spot in the super-round after the win. Pool A play has officially ended, and the two teams will await the top two finishers in pool B in Asia. Super round play begins Nov. 20.
