Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. has announced that he will play for the Dominican Republic in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
Guerrero, 23, has played four seasons with Toronto and is a two-time All-Star who has also won a Silver Slugger and a Gold Glove. His best season came in 2021, when he slashed .311/.401/.601 in 161 games with Toronto, leading the American League in on-base percentage, slugging, OPS, and OPS+, and leading the majors in runs, home runs, and total bases.
This will be Guerrero, Jr.’s first World Baseball Classic appearance.
The Dominican Republic, which won the 2013 World Baseball Classic, will play in Pool D at LoanDepot Park in Miami, Fla., against Israel, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico.
