WBN’s International Player of the Week is Águilas de Mexicali, right-handed pitcher David Reyes in the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico.
Reyes leads the league with 26 strikeouts, threw five scoreless innings on October 30, and got the win in a 3-1 victory against Mayos de Navojoa in Estadio Nido de los Águilas.
Reyes, 34, has been dominant this year and has helped guide Águilas de Mexicali to a 10-6 record, which puts them second in the standings. He has pitched 22 innings in four starts with an ERA of 2.45 and a WHIP of 1.09.ERA.
The Mexican Reyes has spent 14 seasons in the LMB and Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico. He has spent his last seven seasons with Águilas de Mexicali in Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico and his previous four with El Aguila de Veracruz.
Reyes struck out over 100 batters between both leagues, with 104 this season, and has gone over 100 strikeouts in eight years. He pitched 480 games in Mexico with 331 starts. His career numbers in Mexico are 2030 innings, 1,367 strikeouts, an ERA of 4.19.
Reyes represented Mexico with Yaquis de Obregón in the 2013 Caribbean Series in Estadio Sonora in Hermosillo, Mexico. He won the Caribbean Series with a 4-3 win over the Dominican Republic representative Leones del Escogido. Reyes was named to the Caribbean Series All-Star team as a reliever in 2013. He was lights out in 5.1 innings in the Caribbean Series with seven strikeouts, no runs, and just one hit allowed.
Reyes is an accomplished veteran looking to help Águilas de Mexicali win their first championship since he started playing with them in the 2018-2019 season. Águilas de Mexicali last won a championship in the 2016-2017 season and have four ARCO championships in their history.
