A look at some info on where to watch and what to expect for the primetime games on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Apple TV has primetime MLB games every Friday night throughout the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks (18-20) @ Baltimore Orioles (24-12), 7:05 pm EST, AppleTV

Odds: Orioles -125

Probable Starters: Brandon Pfaadt (ARI) 1-2, 4.61 ERA vs Cole Irvin (BAL) 3-1, 2.86 ERA

Preview: Both teams had high expectations coming into the 2024 campaign. The Diamondbacks are fresh off a World Series Appearance, and the Orioles won the AL East last year. The Diamondbacks went out of the gate slow but have quietly won four straight. In that division, it’s essential they don’t fall too far behind as the Dodgers already have a 7.5-game division lead over them. Corbin Carroll, one of the games great young players, has had a tough start to the season. The 2023 All-Star is batting .206, and the Diamondbacks need more from their leadoff hitter.

Probable starter Brandon Pfaadt has yet to face the Orioles in his young but impactful career.

The Orioles have a loaded roster with a ton of exciting young players. They made the playoffs for the first time since 2016 last year and are poised to do it again. They lead the AL East by a half-game and are tied with the Dodgers for the second-best record in baseball. Their most impressive stat is that they have the best record against teams above .500, going 15-6 in those games.

This marks Cole Irvin’s second season with the Orioles. The lefty has bounced around the league, playing for his third team in six years. He has one career start against the Diamondbacks, coming last year where he went 5.2 innings allowing four runs on eight hits.

Prediction: The Diamondbacks will figure it out by October, but the Orioles are the better team right now.

Orioles win

(OR depending on the local market)

Kansas City Royals (23-16) @ Los Angeles Angels (14-24) 9:38 pm EST, AppleTV

Odds: Royals -120

Probable Starters: Alec Marsh (KC) 3-0, 2.70 ERA vs Griffin Canning (LAA) 1-4, 6.69 ERA

Preview: The Royals have been one of the best surprises of the 2024 season. They are currently third in the AL Central but only 1.5 games back from the Guardians. Led by a revitalized Salvador Perez who leads the team in average, home runs, and RBIs, the Royals have been fun to watch this year.

Going in the completely other direction is the Angels, who have found life without Shohei Ohtani challenging. They also lost perennial All-Star Mike Trout to a knee injury who will be shelved for the foreseeable future.

Prediction: Kept the preview short and sweet because this game is simple. The Royals have been good, and the Angels have been bad.

Royals win this one on the road.
