Chicago White Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada went 3-for-3 with four plate appearances resulting in one walk, two RBI, and three runs scored in his second Triple-A rehab start with the Charlotte Knights.
The Knights (16-17) went on to beat the Gwinnett Stripers (12-20) in an 18-11 slugfest.
Moncada landed on the 10-day Injured List on April 14 with lower back soreness, and has been slowly making progression during his last two games with Charlotte.
In Moncada’s first game with Charlotte on Saturday night, he recorded a hit in the ninth inning after flying out his first at-bat to left field in the top of the first inning, striking out swinging in the top of the fourth inning, and striking out swinging in the top of the seventh.
Moncada was batting .308 through nine games in Chicago when he was injured, having made 40 plate appearances and recorded 12 hits, with four doubles, two home runs, five RBI, and one walk during the start of his eighth Major League Baseball Season.
Moncada played in the 2023 World Baseball Classic for Cuba and was selected to the All-World Baseball Classic Team, as he batted .435 in six games with 23 at-bats, 10 hits, four doubles, one home run, five RBI, and drew five walks during the tournament.
Moncada is still working through some injuries from last season, which landed him on the injured list three separate times: a left hamstring strain during late August, strained hamstring in late June, and in April with a right oblique strain.
The Chicago White Sox are in fourth place at 12-23 after beating the Cincinnati Reds yesterday 17-4, and taking the three-game series, winning two out of three. They’re seven games back of the first place Minnesota Twins, who are 19-16.
The White Sox play against the last place Kansas City Royals (9-26) on the road at 7:40 p.m. EDT.
The Charlotte Knights start a three-game home series on Tuesday against the Durham Bulls at home at 6:35 p.m. EDT.
