Alexi Amarista hit a two-run double and later scored on a force play in the third to give the Bravos de Margarita a 3-0 lead, and they held on to take the opener of the Liga Venezolana de Beisbol championship series 4-2 from the Cardenales de Lara.
The Bravos, appearing in their first LVBP championship series in club history, have a 1-0 series lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Cardenales got on the board when Rangel Ravelo singled home Ali Sanchez and Gorkys Hernandez to cut the lead to 3-2. Ravelo and Hernandez each went 2-for-4.

A fourth inning sac fly by Lorenzo Cedrola scored Herlis Rodriguez to give the Bravos a two-run lead. Going 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, Amarista doubled again in the ninth as Margarita threatened to add more insurance late.
Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Felix Doubront went five innings for Margarita, allowing two runs on eight hits, walking three and striking out two to earn the victory. The Bravos’ bullpen allowed one hit over four shutout innings to keep the lead secure.
