Cardenales de Lara 12, Navegantes de Magallanes 7 – It’s hard to come back in a game where you give up 10 runs in the top of the first, and though the Navegantes tried, they couldn’t get back in the game. The Cardenales de Lara scored 10 in the first, including five runs with two outs, and Harold Castro punctuated the big inning with a grand slam. The Navegantes got four in the bottom of the first, including a three-run homer from Gabriel Arias. Former New York Yankee Yangervis Solarte hit a solo homer in the third, and Leandro Pineda hit a solo homer of his own in the eighth for Magallanes. The Cardenales improved to 4-0 in the LVBP round robin, while Magallanes remains winless.
Aguilas del Zulia 4, Tigres de Aragua 2 – A two-run single in the first from Osleivis Basabe and solo home runs from Luis Castro and Angel Reyes in the fourth got Zulia (3-1) past Aragua (1-3). David Rodriguez drove in both Aragua runs with a two-run dinger in the seventh.

Estrellas Orientales 4, Leones del Escogido 0 – Robinson Cano hit a two-run homer, Magneuris Sierra hit an RBI triple, and Jose Barrero had an RBI double in the first, giving the Estrellas a 4-0 lead that held up. Six Estrellas pitchers combined to hold the Leones to five hits and four walks, and they stranded seven runners and went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position in the round robin opener.
Tigres del Licey 5, Aguilas Cibaenas 1 – Domingo Leyba hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, and MLB veteran Emilio Bonifacio drove in Gustavo Nunez with a sacrifice fly as Licey won their round robin opener. The Aguilas’ lone run came in the first on a single by Carlos Peguero that scored Jonathan Villar.
Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico
No. 3 Charros de Jalisco 12, No. 6 Aguilas de Mexicali 8 – Jack Mayfield went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Michael Wielansky went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs as the Charros evened the series with Mexicali. Manny Banuelos allowed three runs on five hits in five innings of work for Jalisco, walking five and striking out three.
No. 1 Tomateros de Culiacan 13, No. 8 Venados de Mazatlan 2 – Dwight Smith jr. went 4-for-5 with a solo homer in the sixth, three RBIs and three runs scored as the Tomateros romped to a 2-0 series lead over Mazatlan Thursday. Cesar Mendoza punctuated the win with a three-run homer in the seventh for Culiacan.
No. 2 Naranjeros de Hermosillo 2, No. 7 Yaquis de Obregon 1 – The Naranjeros tied the series Thursday, getting an RBI single from Agustin Murillo in the second and another from Isaac Paredes in the eighth. Five Hermosillo pitchers combined to allow one run on nine hits, walking three and striking out six. Obregon’s Carlos Sepulveda drove in the Yaquis’ only run in the ninth with a ground out to first that allowed Fernando Flores to score from third.
No. 5 Algodoneros de Guasave 5, No. 4 Caneros de Los Mochis 1 – Jeff Kinley threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit, walking one and striking out six as the Algodoneros evened the series with Los Mochis. His only blemish was a wild pitch in the fifth that allowed Yasmany Tomas to score the Caneros’ only run. Jorge Flores went 4-for-5 for Guasave, hitting a solo homer in the first and scoring three runs.
