In the Liga Venezolana Beisbol Profesional, the Aguilas del Zulia swept their doubleheader against the Leones del Caracas Friday night.

Combined with the Cardenales de Lara’s 3-1 loss to Aragua, the pair of losses dropped the Leones to second place, half a game behind Lara.

There are three games Saturday night in the LVBP, with the Caribes de Anzoategui facing the Tiburones de La Guaira at noon local time, the Navegantes de Magallanes facing Lara at 3 p.m. local, and the Bravos de Margarita facing the Tigres de Aragua at 4 p.m. local time.

The league will not play on Dec. 24-25.

All LVBP games are streamed live on with a paid subscription.

Executive Oscar Prieto Parraga and broadcaster Alfonso Saer were inducted into the Venezuelan Baseball Hall of Fame this past week. The Venezuelan Baseball Hall of Fame is in Valencia, in the Venezuelan state of Carabobo.

Prieto Parraga, a native of Caracas, grew up around baseball. His father owned the Leones del Caracas, and he served as general manager, league representative, and vice president of the club, and became owner when his father passed away. He has been president of the LVBP since 2013.

Alfonso Saer began his career as a sportscaster in Venezuela in 1964, and has been the broadcaster for the LVBP’s Cardenales de Lara since the 1964-65 season.
