Winter Ball Roundup: Criollos One Win Away From Caribbean Series; LVBP Coming Down to Wire; Finals Start Tonight in LAMP, LIDOM

Staff Reports
World Baseball Network

Johneshwy Fargas hit a solo homer in the first and an RBI double in the second to lead the Criollos de Caguas past the Gigantes de Carolina 4-1 in game six of the Liga Beisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente championship series in Puerto Rico Friday night.

The win put the Criollos up 4-2 in the best-of-nine series, a win away from a berth in the Caribbean Series at loanDepot Park in Miami.

JC Escarra, who joined the Gigantes as a reinforcement after the Leones de Ponce were eliminated, drove in Carolina’s only run with a solo homer in the top of the fourth.

Starter Alex Sanabia allowed one run on three hits for Caguas, walking two and striking out four. In total, Carolina mustered just four hits and four walks off the Criollo’s pitchers.

Game seven of the series is Saturday night at 6:15 p.m. EST. All LPBPRC games are streamed live on the LBPRC facebook page.

Bravos de Margarita Eliminated in LVBP – It took 13 innings, but the Cardenales de Lara eliminated the Bravos de Margarita with a 7-6 win in 13 innings, as Lara moved one win closer to the LVBP championship series.

Hernan Perez hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 13th that sent Yohjan Quevedo home with the winning run.

With the win, Lara can clinch a berth in the LVBP championship series against the Tiburones de La Guaira with a win against Margarita tonight.

Because the Leones del Caracas won 8-4 against the Tigres de Aragua on Friday night, they still have a chance to get into the championship series.

If Lara loses tonight and the Leones win, it would set up a Sunday game between Caracas and Lara on the final day of the round robin. A Caracas win would give them the same record as Lara at 9-7 if all the dominoes fell the right way. It’s unclear which tiebreaker the LVBP would use to determine which team would advance, or if a 17th game would be played.

Harold Ramirez went 3-for-6 with two RBI and Rainel Rosario went 1-for-5 with three RBI in Saturday night’s win for Caracas.

La Guaira plays Caracas at 2 p.m. EST and Margarita plays Lara at 4 p.m. EST Saturday. Both games can be streamed via Beisbolplay.com with a paid subscription.

LAMP, LIDOM Championship Series Begins Saturday Night – The Venados de Mazatlan face the Naranjeros de Hermosillo in game one of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico championship series Saturday night at 8 p.m. EST. Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico games can be streamed via Extrabase.tv for a fee.

In the Dominican Republic, the Tigres del Licey face the Estrellas Orientales in game one of the LIDOM championship series on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. EST. The game can be streamed on MLB.tv with a paid subscription.
