World Baseball Classic Experiences Highlight Players on Ballot for Cooperstown

 Matt Tallarini - World Baseball Network  |    Dec 28th, 2024 5:18pm EST

World Baseball Network has compiled a list of all eligible players on the National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot. Several have international experience, including playing in the World Baseball Classic.

Francisco Rodriguez has played in four World Baseball Classic tournaments in 2006, 2009, 2013, and 2017 with Venezuela, and Carlos Beltran played in four with Puerto Rico in 2006, 2009, 2013, and 2017. Miguel Cabrera played for Venezuela in the WBC and is the only player who has played in five events from 2006, 2009, 2013, 2017, and 2023, which is the most by any player.

Ian Kinsler is the only player who has played in two international events and is listed on the HOF Ballot, playing in the 2017 WBC with Team USA and the 2020 Olympics with Team Israel.

Andruw Jones is the only player listed from the WBN ledger of players who have both played in the United States and in Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles from 2013-14 and has played with the Netherlands in the WBC in 2006 and 2013. NPB stats do not resonate with the qualifications of the National Baseball HOF.

Ichiro Suzuki is in his first-year on the ballot and has his stats categorized in the WBN ledger in NPB, MLB and the WBC while playing with Japan in the 2006 and 2009 event.

Adam Jones is also on the ballot for his first-year of eligibility and played also in MLB and NPB during his career, alongside playing in the WBC in 2013 and 2017 with USA Baseball.

Fernando Rodney played in both MLB and the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol in his professional career with the Toros de Tijuana from 2021-22 and with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico and the Leones de Yucatan in 2023, alongside playing with the Dominican Republic in the WBC in 2006, 2013, and 2017. LMB stats do not resonate with the qualifications of the National Baseball HOF.

World Baseball Network has also listed players who are inducted into Cooperstown and who have played in the WBC during their careers: David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez, and Adrian Beltre with the Dominican Republic, Ken Griffey Jr., Derek Jeter, Chipper Jones, and Joe Mauer with the United States, Ivan Rodriguez with Puerto Rico, and Mike Piazza with Italy.
