After his second year in Liga Mexicana de Béisbol with El Aguila de Veracruz, Yasiel Puig will be returning to South Korea, rejoining the Kiwoom Heroes, per journalist Yusseff Diaz. Puig last played in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) in 2022.
Puig, 33, will enter his 16th professional season in baseball once he takes the diamond for the Heroes. He played in 126 games in his debut season in the KBO, hitting 21 home runs and driving in 73 RBIs, along with a .277 batting average.
For 2023, Puig did not play in any affiliated leagues during the spring and summer, but he did suit up in Liga Venezolana de Béisbol (LVBP) and LIDOM and played in the Caribbean Series. He was impressive in 51 games between the three clubs, blasting 12 home runs and 31 RBIs and hitting for a .330 average.
He played with El Aguila de Veracruz in the LMB in 2021 and rejoined the club at the start of the 2024 season. In 64 games in Mexico, Puig hit for a .314 average, crushing 18 home runs and 43 RBIs.
As for this winter, Puig suited up for 17 games with the Tiburones de La Guaira, but he announced today on X (formerly Twitter) that he will be stepping back from the team in order to prepare for the 2025 season. It will be great to see Puig back in South Korea as he prepares for the 2025 baseball season.
