Aguilas Metropolitanas Win 2024-25 Panama Probeis Championship & Advance To Serie De Las Americas Event

The No. 3 seed, Aguilas Metropolitanas, won their first Panama Probeis championship title for the 2024-25 winter league season and beat the No. 1 seed Atlánticos Bocas Del Toro-Colón 12-8 in 10 innings in Game Five of the best-of-five series at Estadio Rod Carew in Panama City, Panama.

The Aguilas Metropolitanas will play in the 2025 Serie De Las Americas event in Nicaragua from January 24-30.

Former Panamanian Major League Baseball legend Carlos Lee is the president of the Panama Probeis League.

The Panama Probeis league is also known as the Liga Profesional de Béisbol de Panamá.

Sebastian Arroyo was the manager for the Aguilas Metropolitanas in the 2024-25 Panama Probeis season.

Aguilas Metropolitanas right-handed pitcher Kevin Rodriguez was named the 2024-25 Panama Probeis championship series MVP.

 

Japanese prospect and Aguilas Metropolitanas second baseman Jumpei Ohashi was named the MVP for Game 5 of the 2024-25 Panama ProBeis championship series.

The Aguilas Metropolitanas offense tacked on four runs in the top of the 10th inning and capped off with first baseman Carlos Xavier Quiroz cracking a three-run double to go up 12-8 over the Atlánticos Bocas Del Toro-Colón.

Aguilas Metropolitanas shortstop Yeremy Lezcano placed a squeeze bunt between the right side of the pitchers mound to score Ohashi with the bases loaded to go up 9-8.

Aguilas Metropolitanas relief pitcher Antonio Frias threw the final four innings on Thursday night and got Atlánticos Bocas Del Toro-Colón first baseman Abraham Rodriguez to pop up to Lezcano for the final out of the game in the bottom of the 10th inning to win the 2024-25 Panama Probeis championship title.

 

The Aguilas Metropolitanas finished runner-up in the Panama ProBeis championship in 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2024 before winning the 2024-25 season.

The Atlánticos Bocas del Toro-Colón won the 2024-25 Probeis regular season title and ended the year with a record of 12-9, resulting in a berth in the league championship series.

The Federales de Chiriqui ended the 2024-25 Probeis season in second place with their record at 12-9 and did not sustain the league regular season title due to their head-to-head record against the Atlánticos Bocas del Toro-Colón.

The Federales de Chiriquí also lost in three games to the Aguilas Metropolitanas in the 2024-25 Panama ProBeis best-of-three semifinal series.

The Aguilas de Metropolitanas ended the 2024-25 season in third place with their record at 9-12. They won the tiebreaker over the Panama Nacionales that, ended the year in fourth place with the same record, and did not qualify for the Probeis postseason.

Panama has appeared in the Caribbean Series from 2019 until 2024 and only won one championship during their six-year span, with the Toros de Herrera winning the 2019 event at Estadio Rod Carew over the 2018-19 Cuban Serie Nacional champion, the Leñadores de Las Tunas 3-1 in the championship game.

The Federales de Chiriquí won the 2024 Panamá Probeis season last year and participated in the 2024 Caribbean Series in Miami at loanDepot Park, and won third place over the 2023 Curacao Professional Baseball league champion, the Curacao Suns 5-4, and were both invitees to the event.

The Aguilas Metropolitanas will play in the 2025 Serie De Las Americas Event hosted by the Asociación De Beisbol De Las Américas committee will be in January against the winners of the professional leagues with the 2024-25 Liga Profesional De Béisbol Colombia season, the 2024 Liga Argentina de Béisbol winner Club Daom, the 2025 Curacao Professional Baseball league winner, the 2024-25 Liga de Béisbol Profesional Nacional winner in Nicaragua, and the 2024 Serie Nacional regular season winner in Cuba, the Lenadores de Las Tunas.

The SDLA Tournament will be from January 24-30, 2025, and will be played in three venues in Nicaragua.

The SDLA semifinals will take place on January 29 and the championship game will take place on January 30 with the schedule listed below.

The SDLA event will be held at the Estadio Nacional Soberania in Managua, the Estadio Roberto Clemente in Masaya, and the Estadio Rigoberto Perez in Leon, Nicaragua.
