Bahamas to Host 2025 Caribbean Baseball Cup

On April 30, the Bahamas Baseball Federation announced it will host the Caribbean Baseball Cup again from December 7 to 14 at the Andre Rogers National Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.

Last year, Curaçao won the tournament, defeating the U.S. Virgin Islands 2-1 in the final. Curaçao, the Bahamas, Cuba, Sint Maarten, the Dominican Republic, and the US Virgin Islands were the field at the 2024 edition.

Although the field has not yet been announced for this edition, it will be the first pre-Olympic qualifier. This will be the first time the Caribbean Baseball Cup will be part of Olympic Baseball qualification. This event will qualify for the Central American and Caribbean Games, held in July 2026 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The 2022 Caribbean Baseball Cup was a qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games. Puerto Rico and Curaçao qualified for the event as the best finishing teams but weren’t already ranked in the top four. A similar format for the 2025 edition will happen.

With Olympic qualification beginning this year, the Central American and Caribbean Games will again be part of the process. The top finishers in that tournament will advance to the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.

Like the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the Pan American Games should qualify teams for the final Olympic qualification. At the 2020 Olympic qualification, the top six teams from the Americas that competed at the 2019 Premier12 made the final Americas Qualifying Event, along with the next two finishers at the Pan American Games in 2019.

Though the field hasn’t been announced, nations like Curaçao, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas should all be there. The tournament will also allow national teams that haven’t played in many tournaments to capture a spot in the Central American and Caribbean Games. With this being an Olympic qualifier, there will be urgency for national teams to compete in this tournament.

During the announcement from the Bahamas federation, they also mentioned calling on their professional players to compete in the event. With many in the minor leagues, this would be the first time for many to play for The Bahamas, and they could do it at home.

Shortstop Sebastian Walcott, the highest-rated Bahamian prospect in baseball, is rated No. 14 by MLB Pipeline. He has never played for the Bahamas national team. He is currently not on Texas’s 40-man roster. We expect only those not on 40-man rosters to be the players eligible to play.

Another notable name who could be on the roster is Cubs prospect BJ Murray. Many more minor leaguers could play as well. This will be the biggest national team tournament that the Bahamas has hosted.
