Some of the players on Columbian baseball team Leones de Barranquilla have still yet to be paid. The owner of the baseball club, Édinson Rentería, is aware of this. However, he claims that there are other factors affecting him that are keeping the Leones players from getting the money they earned.
Rentería recently sold a seperate team, the Tigres de Cartagena baseball club, to Ariel Zambrano who is the director of Iderbol in Colombia. According to Rentería, Zambrano has only made three of the four installment payments, and this is keeping him from paying his players in Barranquilla until he gets the full payment of his other transaction.
In light of these financial issues, Rentería is finding alternate ways to pay the Leones de Barranquilla players. But delays in the sale of Cartagena have in turn affected the Barranquilla organization. The Leones players have not been able to travel to their homes across Colombia and in other countries.

Here was a final statement from Rentería summarizing his plan.
“We did the commercial management, but playing baseball in Colombia is not easy. All teams have economic problems to play baseball here. There is no support from the National Government, there is no support from many companies, there is no support from fans to go to the stadium. It is very, very difficult to play baseball in Colombia. I am going to review the issue carefully to be able to decide the future of Leones. And if Tigres is not cancelled, we have to look at what we are going to do with that franchise as well…”
