Ethan Mendoza has Been a Huge Surprise for Texas

The Texas Longhorns are sitting nicely with one loss heading into this week with SEC play right around the corner. Out of the many big names in the lineup, Ethan Mendoza has been a pleasant surprise. The Arizona State transfer leads the team in hitting with a .429 average and an on-base percentage of .548.

His four home runs this season are tied for the most on Texas, along with Will Gasparino and Rylan Galvan.

Mendoza has also been versatile on the base paths with five stolen bases in five attempts.

The infielder’s hitting has been non-stop recently. He has a nine-game hit streak. This past weekend against Santa Clara, he had six hits.

His best performance so far this season was back on Feb. 23 against Dartmouth. He went 3 for 4 at the plate and had a home run.

Mendoza has exceeded what he did for the Arizona State Sun Devils a season ago. He has already surpassed his home run total from last season and is halfway toward his RBI total from a season ago.

The performance he has put on for Texas in 2025 has made him not only the best Longhorn hitter but also a top ten hitter in the SEC. He sits ninth in the conference right now, placed between two big-name players in LSU’s Jared Jones and Arkansas’ Wehiwa Aloy.

Mendoza and Texas will be back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 11. They will face off against UT-Arlington in a midweek matchup at Disch-Falk Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST.
