ATLANTA, Ga. – On Tuesday, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Georgia Bulldogs clashed in a big-time midweek matchup at Truist Park, the usual home of the Atlanta Braves. Georgia got win number 33 of the season, defeating Georgia Tech 5-2.
The Georgia Bulldogs struck first early on in the first inning. First baseman Ryland Zaborowski got a base hit into left field to score Slate Alford. Then, Georgia loaded the bases, and Nolan McCarthy drew a walk that scored another run.
Umpires overturned a play that would have extended the Bulldogs’ lead even further. Instead, it was called a double play. Therefore, after the first inning finished, Georgia led 2-0.
Georgia Tech got on the scoreboard thanks to a home run from freshman Will Baker into the Chop House seats. This cut the lead in half, making it a 2-1 game. Baker later tacked on another run to tie the game in the fourth inning with an RBI base hit into left-center field, tying the game at 2-2.
Georgia got the lead right back thanks to a home run by Devin Obee into the Chop House. The Bulldogs’ catcher, Henry Hunter, ripped a double off the left field wall in the next at-bat to get more offense going.
Then, a two-run shot came for the Bulldogs by way of Colby Branch. This extended Georgia’s lead to 5-2.
Georgia’s pitching was stifling all night long. Outside of Baker, the Yellow Jackets could only muster two hits. The Bulldogs’ pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts, with Charlie Goldstein leading the way with three of them. Zach Harris and Nate Taylor each had two strikeouts.
Following this win, Georgia will travel to Nashville this weekend to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores in their next SEC series.
Georgia Tech will try to rebound from the loss with a road series against the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Fla.
