On Sunday, November 3, the MLB announced the 2024 Gold Glove Awards winners. Five international-born players took home a Gold Glove Award this season after remarkable performances on defense. Veteran first-baseman Carlos Santana took home this hardware for the first time in his long MLB career.
Santana, 38, brings home his first career Gold Glove Award after a strong season at first base for the Minnesota Twins. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Santana made his MLB debut in 2010 with the Cleveland Guardians, where he began his career as a catcher. As for this season, Santana played in 146 games at first base, owning a fielding percentage of .996, and led all first-basemen with 14 outs above average, and he was tied with Orioles first-baseman Ryan Mountcastle with eight defensive runs saved. Santana was also named a finalist for the Silver Slugger Award.
